Mtg alela commander deck11/4/2023 I personally like to get every cards that can make my artifact and enchantement play at flash speed in my Alela deck. I play a lot of Alela and have had tremendous success with her in a variety of builds, so feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions. At 1 generic mana, you can amass a huge board state, but adding ] gives you infinites, so with a haste enabler like ] or ] make it an instant combat win, or the combo is at instant speed as long as Sword is already on the field so you can do it on an opponent's end step. Thopter triggers Sword to equip to it from GY, then you sac it again. Because they tend to be extra expensive anyway, and since you're running the sac-to-benefit cards like Skullclamp, I'd recommend getting rid of every anthem effect and replacing them with instant speed interaction.Īlela also has a ridiculously quick win condition through ] and ] where you make a bunch of faeries and thopters. Protection via artifacts is too slow, since you have to play the artifact, then play Alela, then equip Alela (at sorcery speed), whereas counters cost a fraction of that and are immediate. Cheap counters like ], ], ], ], ], and ] are all good answers, and BW has the best removal suite in Magic. You need to cut some of your enchantments (any of the 4+ cmc ones that don't provide immediate value are a good starting point) in favor of adding in protection in the form of instants. You have great synergies to "play card, make faerie" but you only have 2 counterspells and 3 removal spells. There are a ton of comments here about building Alela, but I wanna comment on your deck building more than on your commander. Next I'd start replacing 3 cmc mana rocks with 2cmc rocks. In addition, magis of the moat keeps your opponents from attacking eachother. If you have Hyena umbra and Odric (and Alela), all your creatures have first strike deathtouch. Plus, if you have out one of the boots you grant all your tokens haste. Giving every creature flying, deathtouch, lifelink is extremely useful. I also include ] to grant all my tokens deathtouch. Once you point out that Alela has deathtouch and first strike no one will want to attack you. That's why I include ], since Alela naturally has deathtouch. People tend not to attack into an army of tokens, especially when Alela is out with deathtouch. The first thing I think I would cut are the cards that try to keep your opponents from attacking you (Ghostly prison, propaganda, magis of the moat). If you can manage to double up on faeries with ] ] and/or ], have one of the above mana altars and etb draw cards, you can likely cast your entire deck in a single turn. Turning faeries into mass card draw is a must. You can offset the lifeloss with ] or ] to give all your faeries lifelink. Cast a bunch of artifacts and enchantments with it to make an army of huge faeries. ![]() Altars like ] and ] are also great ways to turn faeries into mana ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]įor ramp, use all the signets in the colors as well as some colorless rocks. It sound like you are having difficulty ramping and defending Alela.įor protection, I like to use proactive artifacts/enchantments and a bunch of counter spells. This deck's goal is to spam faerie tokens and turn them into value until you have so many you just swing in and win. Here's my deck (somewhat outdated) list: I would appreciate anyone with good experience with the deck to help me with finding the correct strategy, thanks! :) I also feel the deck might be lacking alternate wincons, so I've been considering ], ] and for some reason always seems to be missing what I need at that moment, whether it's removal, protection, threats, card draw etc. One game I had lots of cards in my had thanks to ] yet I still couldn't do pretty much anything because an opponent had a suture priest out. I've encountered decks with endless graveyard recycling, tons of ramp, and I'm feeling that here I am struggling to create 1/1s. The deck also runs ] and ], which feels risky as there is almost no lifegain other than Alela's lifelink. I feel like I'm always struggling for mana, even with all the artifact ramp in the deck. ![]() ![]() Also using my own board wipes when things get out of hand on the opponent's side just feels bad. quickly remove all the advantage I had and I have to start off from square 1. After that commander tax is hard on this deck.Īnother thing is that board wipes etc. Alela, the main threat can be easily removed if not protected (which would mean getting her out later) without Alela I'm an easy attack target. I feel like the deck might be lacking threats. It's also funny because when I took it out people would say "oh she's powerful" but I end up without much success. I'm having a hard time getting the deck off the ground. I wanted to ask about good strategies for playing the it. She's is one of the top commanders on EDHrec, yet I'm having problems with the deck.
